Reflexology
The ancient way to health and relaxation
This natural treatment, believed to have originated in the ancient
civilisations of Egypt and China, uses the feet to represent maps of the whole
body. The theory of dividing the body into 'zones' was developed by an American
doctor in the early 20th century. This principal was developed in the 1930's by
Eunice Ingham who compiled the foot maps that are the basis of the ones used by
all reflexologists today. Reflexology was introduced to this country by Doreen
Bayly in 1966.
The application of pressure to specific 'reflex' points stimulates the
various support systems within the body, helping them to work more effectively
and promoting self-healing.
Treatment Procedure:
You need only remove shoes and any foot covering before receiving this
therapy. Once comfortably settled on a fully adjustable couch, your feet will be
examined and then gentle pressure will be applied to specific points on the feet
and ankles. You should not experience any discomfort during the session but some
areas may feel more sensitive than others. Plain talcum powder will be used as a
medium to allow smooth movements over the foot. Your comfort will be monitored
throughout the treatment. You will be offered a glass of water at the end of the
session to encourage the removal of waste toxins from the body.
Benefits:
After just one session you should feel very relaxed but a course of 4-6
treatments can help to alleviate the symptoms of chronic conditions such as IBS,
Eczema or insomnia and improve fertility.
Reactions after
treatment:
These will vary depending on whether you have any pre-existing conditions but
are generally a sign that the treatment is working.
They may include:
- An overall sense of well being
- Improved sleeping patterns
- Initial fatigue then increased energy
Full post-treatment advice and support will be provided at the end of your
session.
Contraindications:
There are certain circumstances when a Reflexology treatment cannot be given.
