Indian Head Massage
Relieves stress and tension
This therapy is based on ancient Ayurvedic principles and has been used in India for thousands of years. A major influence on the introduction of this treatment to the West was Narendra Mehta who combined various aspects of the traditional head massage in his native India and introduced them to this country in 1981. The routine used today includes movements on not only the head and scalp but also to the face, ears, neck, shoulders and upper arms together with balancing of the 3 upper chakra (energy) centres which effect our self expression, intuition and communication.
Treatment routine:
There is no need to remove any clothes prior to receiving this therapy although it is best to wear a close fitting top such as a t-shirt. You will be asked to remove any necklaces, earrings and glasses. Clients with shoulder length hair or longer may arrive with their hair tied up or this can be done at the start of the routine. All hair ties will be removed during the treatment to allow movements on the scalp to be performed. You will be seated in a comfortable, low backed chair and a consultation form will be completed on your first visit in order that the therapy can be tailored to your exact needs. This technique does not involve the use of oils but a scalp massage using oils can be used at the end of the treatment if requested.
Benefits:
This is a very effective treatment for reducing muscular tension in the neck and shoulders. It can help to relieve headaches, eyestrain and sinus congestion. It can also increase circulation of blood and lymph which improves the nutrition in the cells of the scalp therefore promoting healthy skin and hair.
Reactions after treatment:
Due to the relaxing effect of this therapy, you may feel sleepy or light-headed immediately after treatment but you will be given ample time to recover before leaving. Your comfort will be monitored both during and after the treatment.
Contraindications:
There are certain circumstances where an Indian Head Massage cannot be given. Please see the "Contraindications" page or call 0800 612 9537 for more details.
